Visible Light-Induced Photocatalyst with Au/TiO2 Nanocomposites Fabricated through Pulsed Laser-Induced Photolysis

Bing-Yen Wang et al.

Summary: Gold-titanium oxide nanocomposites (Au-TiO2 NCPs) were fabricated using pulsed laser-induced photolysis (PIPS) and demonstrated effective visible light catalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB). The efficient production of NCPs using the PIPS method suggests its potential for commercialization. By analyzing the optical spectrum of the light sources, it was found that the charge transfer between Au and TiO2 contributed to a 37% photodegradation efficiency at 405 nm wavelength.

Facile synthesis of black N-TiO2/N-RGO nanocomposite for hydrogen generation and electrochemical applications: New insights into the structure-performance relationship

S. Ida et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to develop efficient photocatalysts for hydrogen generation using TiO2 and reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The synthesis of black - nitrogen doped TiO2/nitrogen doped reduced graphene oxide (BNTNG) has been optimized using a low temperature/pressure, vacuum annealing process with ethanol. The BNTNG-2 catalyst, stabilized with pyrrolic nitrogen, has shown enhanced hydrogen generation and electrochemical activity compared to its counterparts BNTNG-1 and BNTNG-3, due to the presence of C2H4 fragments from ethanol that restore sp(2) hybridization in nitrogen doped reduced graphene oxide (NRGO). The decreased hydrogen production and capacitance in BNTNGs compared to its white analogue can be attributed to electron/hole recombination centers caused by the presence of N-O species and oxygen vacancies/Ti3+ ions. The recyclability of the photocatalyst has been confirmed over five consecutive cycles. A plausible mechanism is proposed to explain the role of N-O moieties and the restoration of sp(2) graphitic structure in BNTNG-2.

Low Metal Loading (Au, Ag, Pt, Pd) Photo-Catalysts Supported on TiO2 for Renewable Processes

Francesco Conte et al.

Summary: This study investigates photo-catalysts based on titanium dioxide modified with highly dispersed metallic nanoparticles. The physico-chemical properties and catalytic behavior of these catalysts in various photo-synthetic processes were analyzed. The results show that catalysts containing platinum or bi-metallic materials exhibit the highest activity and productivity. The metal functions as an electron sink and contributes to the optoelectronic properties of the catalysts.

Spin-Orbit Coupling Effects in Au 4f Core-Level Electronic Structures in Supported Low-Dimensional Gold Nanoparticles

Smruti R. Sahoo et al.

Summary: Despite the consistent spin-orbit-splitting values, deviations in catalytic activities were observed in supported AuNP-based catalysts due to alterations in the electronic band structures. These deviations were present regardless of synthesis conditions or properties of the gold nanoparticles, indicating potential areas for future research in NP-based catalyst systems.

Metal-Support Interaction in Pt/TiO2: Formation of Surface Pt-Ti Alloy

Wenning Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that the metal-support interaction in Pt/TiO2 catalysts is predominantly surface Pt-Ti alloy formation. Driven by the small size of Pt particles and reactive {001} facets of TiO2, this alloy was readily formed, weakening the adsorption of probe molecules. TiOx overlayers appeared on the surface of large Pt particles.
