Targeted immunotherapy of triple-negative breast cancer by aptamer-engineered NK cells

Summary: This study demonstrates a novel immunotherapeutic approach for targeting triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) using aptamer-engineered NK cells. The synthetic aptamer probes selectively target TNBC cell lines and trigger apoptosis and death of cultured TNBC cells. Systemic administration of aptamer-engineered NK cells inhibits lung metastasis in mice harboring TNBC xenografts.

Furthermore, a label-free and real-time aptasensor was developed for the detection of STX, demonstrating good reproducibility and stability.

Summary: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) may be a promising alternative for the treatment of breast cancer, especially for aggressive types like triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). A recent study explored the use of conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs) as photosensitizers for targeted PDT. By attaching unique 2'-Fluoropyrimidines-RNA-aptamers to the surface of CPNs, the researchers aimed to improve the selectivity of the treatment for TNBC cells. Results showed that CL4, sTN29, and sTN58 aptamers were effective in selective tumor targeting and improving PDT efficacy in TNBC cells.

A proof-of-concept study further proves the ZY-1-mediated targeted cancer therapy using a ZY-1-based complex loaded with Dox. This study would facilitate more comprehensive studies of anti-FN aptamers in the imaging and treatment of tumors and other FN-associated diseases.

It also highlights the different types of copolymers used for preparing polymeric micelles, their physicochemical attributes, preparation methods, characterization, and applications in cancer diagnostics.
