Quantum magnonics: When magnon spintronics meets quantum information science

H. Y. Yuan et al.

Summary: Spintronics and quantum information science are promising candidates for innovating information processing technologies. The combination of these two fields enables us to study quantum phenomena and realize multi-functional quantum tasks. Recent progress in coding and processing information using magnons, as well as advances in understanding the entanglement of quasi-particles and designing high-quality quantum platforms, provide physical platforms for integrating magnons with quantum systems. This has led to the emergence of the highly interdisciplinary field of quantum magnonics, which combines spintronics, quantum optics, and quantum information science.

Cavity magnonics

Babak Zare Rameshti et al.

Summary: Cavity magnonics explores the interaction between magnons and confined electromagnetic fields, offering strong magnon-photon coupling and nonlinear behavior in microwave cavities. This field has the potential to be integrated into future quantum technologies. Magnetic optical resonators enhance the interaction between magnons and light, enabling magnon cooling and heating. The coupling between a magnon mode and a superconducting qubit in a microwave cavity allows for measurements in the single magnon limit.

Skyrmion Qubits: A New Class of Quantum Logic Elements Based on Nanoscale Magnetization

Christina Psaroudaki et al.

Summary: Skyrmion qubits are a new class of building blocks for quantum logic elements based on nanoscale magnetization textures, enabling rich operation regimes with high anharmonicity by adjusting logical states through electric and magnetic fields. Two variants of skyrmion qubits are proposed based on their quantized state, along with appropriate microwave pulses for generating single-qubit gates and multiqubit schemes for scalable architectures. Scalability, controllability by microwave fields, operation time scales, and readout by nonvolatile techniques all contribute to make the skyrmion qubit a highly attractive logical element for quantum processors.

Tunable cooperativity in coupled spin-cavity systems

Lukas Liensberger et al.

Summary: The experiment focused on the tunability of cooperativity in coupled spin-cavity systems by changing the magnetic state of the spin system using an external control parameter. The model system used was Cu2OSeO3 material coupled to a microwave cavity resonator, showing a strong tunability of the normalized coupling rate by magnetic field. The results allow for changing the magnon-photon cooperativity from 1 to 60 at the phase boundaries of the skyrmion lattice state.

Hybridized magnon modes in the quenched skyrmion crystal

Rina Takagi et al.

Summary: This study investigates magnetic resonance in the quenched SkX state in a chiral magnetic insulator, identifying sextupole and octupole excitation modes of skyrmions at low temperatures. These modes, usually inactive for oscillating magnetic fields with GHz-range frequency, are found to be detectable through hybridization with the active counterclockwise and breathing modes. The observed magnetic excitation spectra are well reproduced by theoretical calculations, showcasing the key role of enhanced magnetic anisotropy at low temperatures in the observed hybridization between active and inactive modes.

Coupling microwave photons to topological spin textures in Cu2OSeO3

S. Khan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a direct interaction between cavity resonant mode and two resonant skyrmion modes, specifically gyration and breathing modes, in Cu2OSeO3. The largest coupling strength is observed at 57K, with an enhanced cavity linewidth indicating the degeneracy point. The effective coupling strength is attributed to the presence of a large number of skyrmions and a stable skyrmion lattice.
