EPA and DHA differentially coordinate the crosstalk between host and gut microbiota and block DSS-induced colitis in mice by a reinforced colonic mucus barrier

Jian Fang et al.

Summary: The study found that EPA and DHA have different effects in ulcerative colitis. High-dose EPA can enhance the mucus barrier, regulate the gut microbiome, and relieve inflammation. This suggests that EPA may be a promising adjunctive therapy for ulcerative colitis.

Prevotella copri increases fat accumulation in pigs fed with formula diets

Congying Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation of gut microbiome with pig lean meat percentage in commercial Duroc pigs, finding that Prevotella copri was significantly associated with fat accumulation. The high abundance of P. copri correlated with increased concentrations of obesity-related serum metabolites, leading to host chronic inflammatory responses and increased fat deposition.

Eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids attenuate hyperglycemia through the microbiome-gut-organs axis in db/db mice

Pan Zhuang et al.

Summary: The study found that DHA and EPA can significantly alleviate hyperglycemia and insulin resistance by altering the gut microbiome and metabolites, thereby improving symptoms of diabetes, with EPA showing a more pronounced effect.

Dietary Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid Ethyl Esters Influence the Gut Microbiota and Bacterial Metabolites in Rats

Ryota Hosomi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of dietary EPA-ethyl ester (EE) and DHA-EE on steroid metabolism, gut microbiota, and bacterial metabolites in Wistar rats. The results showed that rats fed with DHA had lower microbiota diversity indices and significant differences in the relative abundance of microbiota at the genus level compared to rats fed with EPA or SOY diets. Therefore, it was concluded that EPA and DHA have different effects on the diversity and composition of gut microbiota under the experimental conditions.
