These reservoirs are hydrocarbon saturated and are usually composed of clastics or carbonates. Development involves horizontal drilling and multistage hydraulic fracturing to extract hydrocarbons.

Unconventional resource reservoir oil production has accounted for a significant portion of total basin production, and maintaining human resources and capital will be challenges for developing hydrocarbon resources within the basin.
