Confining High-Valence Iridium Single Sites onto NickelOxyhydroxide for Robust Oxygen Evolution

Qun He et al.

Summary: In this study, a vacancy-rich nickel hydroxide stabilized Ir single-atom catalyst was reported, which achieved long-term stability in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and higher mass activity than commercial catalyst. The active structure with high-valence and peripheral oxygen ligands-rich Ir sites confined onto the nickel oxyhydroxide surface was formed. The introduction of atomized Ir not only prevented the dissolution and agglomeration of Ir, but also suppressed the substrate dissolution in OER.

Selectively anchoring single atoms on specific sites of supports for improved oxygen evolution

Zhirong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of different anchoring sites on the oxygen-evolving electrocatalysis by selectively anchoring iridium single atoms onto different positions on a defective CoOOH surface. The results show that the electronic interaction between the single-atom iridium and the support modifies the electronic structure of the active center in Ir-1/T-O-CoOOH, while a hydrogen bonding stabilizes the intermediates and lowers the energy barrier in Ir-1/V-O-CoOOH. This indicates that the homogeneity of single-atom catalysts is not only determined by their structures, but also by the localized coordination environments.

Iridium Oxide Modified with Silver Single Atom for Boosting Oxygen Evolution Reaction in Acidic Media

Fei-Fei Zhang et al.

Summary: An Ag-1/IrOx single atom catalyst with embedded Ag single atoms in an IrO2 matrix is reported for efficient oxygen evolution in acidic media. DFT calculations show that the neighboring Ir atoms to the single Ag atom assist in boosting the oxygen evolution process. Strong Ir-O bonds and low overpotential in the Ag-1/IrOx SAC prevent lattice oxygen loss, resulting in high oxygen evolution reaction stability.
