Quantum fidelity susceptibility in excited state quantum phase transitions: Application to the bending spectra of nonrigid molecules

Jamil Khalouf-Rivera et al.

Summary: This study characterizes excited state quantum phase transitions in the two-dimensional vibron model using quantum fidelity susceptibility and comparing the results with the participation ratio. It also applies the findings to determine the linear or bent character of different overtones for specific bending modes of six molecular species. The optimized eigenvalues and eigenstates are used in three cases, while published results are used for the other three cases.

Energy cat states induced by a parity-breaking excited-state quantum phase transition

Angel L. Corps et al.

Summary: We show that excited-state quantum phase transitions can be used to engineer an energy cat state in a system where the parity symmetry is broken. By adding a parity-breaking term, we observe the formation of three excited-state phases and level crossings. We also find that a generalized microcanonical ensemble with two different average energies is required to describe equilibrium states in this situation.

Anharmonicity-induced excited-state quantum phase transition in the symmetric phase of the two-dimensional limit of the vibron model

Jamil Khalouf-Rivera et al.

Summary: In this study, we further investigate the excited-state quantum phase transition in the two-dimensional anharmonic vibron model and characterize it in the symmetric phase using quantities such as the quantum number operator, density of states, etc. Additionally, we extend the usage of the quasilinearity parameter to characterize the phases in the spectrum and include a practical analysis of the critical energies for linear isomers.

Excited-state quantum phase transitions

Pavel Cejnar et al.

Summary: The paper reviews the effects of excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) in interacting many-body systems with finite numbers of collective degrees of freedom. It classifies typical ESQPT signatures in the spectra of energy eigenstates with respect to the underlying classical dynamics, outlining a variety of quantum systems in which they occur. The thermodynamic and dynamic consequences of ESQPTs, like those in microcanonical thermodynamics, quantum quench dynamics, and in the response to nearly adiabatic or periodic driving are described. Suggestions for generalizations of the ESQPT concept in periodic lattices and in resonant tunneling systems are also mentioned.

Excited state quantum phase transitions in the bending spectra of molecules

Jamil Khalouf-Rivera et al.

Summary: An extension of the Hamiltonian for the vibron model was presented to incorporate all possible interactions up to four-body operators. This approach was applied to model the bending spectrum of four molecules, showcasing the versatility of the algebraic method. Predicted bending energies and wave functions were computed for each case, enabling the depiction of associated quantum monodromy diagrams, Birge-Sponer plots, and participation ratios.

Constant of Motion Identifying Excited-State Quantum Phases

Angel L. Corps et al.

Summary: This study discusses a broad class of excited-state quantum phase transitions that lead to two different excited-state quantum phases, where equilibrium expectation values crucially depend on a specific conserved quantity in one phase, while energy is the only relevant thermodynamic magnitude in the other phase. The operator in the first phase acts as a discrete symmetry with two different eigenvalues.

Interferometric Order Parameter for Excited-State Quantum Phase Transitions in Bose-Einstein Condensates

Polina Feldmann et al.

Summary: Excited-state quantum phase transitions extend the concept of quantum phase transitions beyond the ground state, characterized by closing energy gaps in the spectrum. Identifying order parameters for excited-state quantum phase transitions is a challenge, but introducing a topological order parameter distinguishes excited state phases in experiments with spinor Bose-Einstein condensates, providing a way to experimentally characterize excited-state quantum phases in atomic many-body systems.

Avoided crossings and dynamical tunneling close to excited-state quantum phase transitions

D. J. Nader et al.

Summary: Using the Wehrl entropy, the study focuses on the delocalization in phase space of energy eigenstates near avoided crossings in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model. It is observed that avoided crossings originate from classical pairs of trajectories in different phase-space regions as coupling parameters change. An abrupt increase in the Wehrl entropy for eigenstates near avoided crossings close to the critical energy of the excited-state quantum phase transition is detected, indicating an enhancement of dynamical tunneling and breaking of the quantum-classical correspondence in the evolution of observables.

Stabilization of product states and excited-state quantum phase transitions in a coupled qubit-field system

Pavel Stransky et al.

Summary: In this study, a system of a single qubit interacting with a soft-mode bosonic field is analyzed, revealing a complex arrangement of quantum phase transitions in both the ground and excited states. The experimentally observable signature of some transitions is a dynamical stabilization of a fully factorized qubit-field state involving the field vacuum, particularly in the ultrastrong coupling regime. The degree of stabilization abruptly varies with interaction parameters and increases with the softness of the field mode, showing connections to various forms of excited-state quantum phase transitions.

Dynamical preparation of stripe states in spin-orbit-coupled gases

J. Cabedo et al.

Summary: Spin-changing collisions in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates are a powerful tool to achieve macroscopic many-body quantum states, with modulation of collisions leading to an effective Hamiltonian equivalent to that of an artificial spinor gas. By exploiting this dressed-basis description, it is possible to robustly drive the spin-orbit-coupled condensate into the ferromagnetic stripe phase via a quantum phase transition.

Quantum geometric tensor and quantum phase transitions in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

Daniel Gutierrez-Ruiz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quantum metric tensor and scalar curvature of a specific version of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, analyzing ground-state and excited-state quantum phase transitions. By utilizing the Holstein-Primakoff approximation, analytic expressions for quantum metric tensor and curvatures were derived and compared with finite-size numerical results, showing good agreement except near phase transition points. The classical Hamiltonian was constructed using Bloch coherent states, revealing stability changes and bifurcation during quantum phase transitions.
