Parameter Inversion by a Modified Reflected Signal Reconstruction Method for Thin-Layered Media

Yixuan Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a modified method based on reflected signal reconstruction to address the issue of overlapping reflected signals in GPR thin-layer detection. By using the generalized reflection coefficient spectrum as initial values, the accuracy and convergence speed of parameter estimation are improved.

GPRInvNet: Deep Learning-Based Ground-Penetrating Radar Data Inversion for Tunnel Linings

Bin Liu et al.

Summary: GPRInvNet is a deep neural network architecture for inverting subsurface structures from ground-penetrating radar (GPR) B-Scan data, capable of effectively reconstructing complex defects in tunnel linings. By fusing features from adjacent traces to enhance each trace and further condensing features, it achieves accurate spatial alignment.

Study of wavelet entropy for airport pavement inspection using a multistatic ground-penetrating radar system

Lilong Zou et al.

Summary: This study used a multistatic GPR system to detect interlayer debonding in airport pavement, developed an advanced approach using the average entropy of wavelet transform parameters to quantify phase disturbance, and successfully detected tiny voids in the pavement. Experimental results showed that the method accurately and efficiently detected interlayer debonding on the pavement model and was validated by on-site coring results.

Mapping Subsurface Utility Pipes by 3-D Convolutional Neural Network and Kirchhoff Migration Using GPR Images

Takahiro Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: This article introduces a novel algorithm that combines 3-D convolutional neural network (3-D-CNN) and Kirchhoff migration for subsurface utility pipe detection using ground-penetrating radar (CPR). The developed model achieved a classification accuracy of about 91%, accurately estimating the pipes' existences and directions. The algorithm provides a clear understanding of pipes' 3-D positions and arrangement with reasonable calculation time based on experimental field data.

Landmine Detection Using Autoencoders on Multipolarization GPR Volumetric Data

Paolo Bestagini et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel buried object detection technique for unexploded landmine discovery, using a specific type of convolutional neural network known as autoencoder to analyze ground penetrating radar (GPR) data with different polarizations. The method operates in an anomaly detection framework, training only on GPR data from landmine-free areas, and recognizing landmines as dissimilar objects to the soil in the training set. Experimental results show that this technique achieves high accuracy above 93 on challenging data sets with minimal training and no ad hoc data preprocessing.
