Ductal metaplasia in pancreas

Shu Li et al.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal metaplasia (PDM) is the process where various types of cells in the pancreas transform into ductal or ductal-like cells. The exact cellular origins and functional significance of PDM, as well as its cellular and molecular regulation, are still uncertain. PDM development is associated with increased risk of pancreatic precursors and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, while cellular plasticity in PDM contributes to the regeneration of pancreatic tissue.

The impact of ellagic acid on some apoptotic gene expressions: a new perspective for the regulation of pancreatic Nrf-2/NF-κB and Akt/VEGF signaling in CCl4-induced pancreas damage in rats

Summary: In this study, ellagic acid (EA) was found to have potential therapeutic effects on pancreatic injury in rats. EA showed increased Nrf-2 and caspase-3 protein expressions, catalase activities, and GSH levels, while reducing TNF-α, NF-κB, Bcl-2, VEGF, and Akt protein expressions and MDA levels in the EA + CCl4 group compared to the CCl4 group. These results suggest that EA may be effective in reducing pancreas tissue injury and could be used as a drug in the future.
