A facile route toward hydrophilic plasmonic copper selenide nanocrystals: new perspectives for SEIRA applications

Jailson J. da Silva et al.

Summary: The study describes a simple method for synthesizing non-stoichiometric copper selenide nanocrystals with excellent localized surface plasmon resonance effects. By optimizing the Cu/stabilizer and Cu/Se molar ratios, as well as the initial pH, nanocrystals with prominent optical performance were successfully prepared.

Universal quenching of common fluorescent probes by water and alcohols

Jimmy Maillard et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that water acts as a classic fluorescence quencher for organic fluorophores, reducing their fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime significantly. The fluorescence quenching is found to be more efficient for red-emitting probes and is attributed to high-energy vibrations of the solvent. Understanding this solvent-assisted quenching mechanism could lead to the rational design of brighter fluorescent probes by protecting organic fluorophores from the solvent.
