Impacts of inverse magnetic catalysis on screening masses of neutral pions and sigma mesons in hot and magnetized quark matter

Bing-kai Sheng et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the screening masses of neutral pions and sigma mesons in hot and magnetized quark matter using an improved NJL model with a magnetic-field-dependent coupling constant. The results show that the effects of magnetic field on screening masses are consistent with the definition of quark condensate.

Neutral and charged mesons in magnetic fields A resonance gas in a non-relativistic quark model

Toru Kojo

Summary: Analyzing mesons in constant magnetic fields using a non-relativistic constituent quark model, the study explores the internal quark dynamics and the effects of magnetic translations on neutral and charged mesons. The phase space enhancement for mesons at low temperatures significantly increases entropy, aiding the transition from a hadron gas to a quark gluon plasma.

QCD transition at the physical point, and its scaling window from twisted mass Wilson fermions

Andrey Yu Kotov et al.

Summary: In this study, the scaling properties of the finite temperature QCD phase transition were investigated for different light quark masses using simulations of Wilson fermions. An order parameter free from linear contributions in mass was identified, which proved useful for assessing universal behavior. The results were found to be compatible with the 3D O (4) universality class for the physical pion mass and temperatures within the range of 120 MeV to 300 MeV.

Recent progresses on QCD phases in a strong magnetic field: views from Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Gaoqing Cao

Summary: This review summarizes recent progress on the possible phases of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the presence of a strong magnetic field, mainly from the views of the chiral effective Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Four kinds of phase transitions are explored in detail, and the unsolved problems of inverse magnetic catalysis effect and competition between the chiral density wave and solitonic modulation phases are revisited. Useful results can be obtained by adopting self-consistent schemes.

QCD phase diagram in a constant magnetic background

Jens O. Andersen

Summary: Magnetic catalysis refers to the enhancement of a condensate under the influence of an external magnetic field, a robust phenomenon in low-energy theories, QCD models, and lattice simulations. The quark-meson model serves as a specific example of magnetic catalysis but predicts different behavior compared to lattice results, particularly in terms of the chiral transition temperature T-chi as a function of the magnetic field B. The disagreement may be attributed to the interplay between valence and sea contributions to the quark condensate and ongoing attempts to improve low-energy models using lattice input.

Fluctuations and correlations of net baryon number, electric charge and strangeness in a background magnetic field

H-T Ding et al.

Summary: Results on the second-order fluctuations and correlations of net baryon number, electric charge, and strangeness in (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD in the presence of a background magnetic field are presented. The study shows that peaked structures in fluctuations and correlations develop at nonzero temperatures as the magnetic field strength increases, suggesting potential importance for probing the existence of a magnetic field in heavy-ion collision experiments.

SCREENING MASSES TOWARDS CHIRAL LIMIT

Simon Dentinger et al.

Summary: This study investigates the possible effective restoration of the anomalous U-A(1) symmetry and its impact on the global phase diagram of QCD by calculating scalar and pseudo-scalar screening masses and corresponding susceptibilities. Non-trivial differences in the structure of the scalar and pseudo-scalar susceptibilities are discussed for lattices with N-tau = 8, highlighting the importance of this restoration for understanding QCD.

Gauge independence of pion masses in a magnetic field within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Jianing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the properties of neutral and charged pions in a constant magnetic field at zero temperature are investigated using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The gauge invariance of charged pion masses is examined by deriving correlation functions for pions in coordinate space based on linear response theory. It is shown that the mass of charged pions is independent of the choice of vector potential for the magnetic field, and the momentum-space random phase approximation is found to be equivalent to the imaginary-time method used in this work.

Chiral properties of (2+1)-flavor QCD in strong magnetic fields at zero temperature

H. T. Ding et al.

Summary: The study investigates properties of pseudoscalar mesons in lattice QCD calculations with background magnetic fields, including mass, magnetic polarizability, chiral condensates, decay constants, and the influence of magnetic fields on these properties. Results show that the masses of neutral pseudoscalar mesons decrease monotonically with increasing magnetic field strength and then stabilize at a non-zero value, while the behavior of charged pion and kaon masses in magnetic fields is non-monotonic. Furthermore, the study observes a qB scaling of certain properties within a specific range of magnetic field strengths.

Magnetic field dependence of the neutral pion mass in the linear sigma model with quarks: The strong field case

Alejandro Ayala et al.

Summary: The study shows that, when accounting for the effects of the magnetic field on the model couplings, vacuum sigma field, and neutral pion self-energy, the neutral pion mass decreases monotonically as a function of the field strength. The results demonstrate excellent qualitative and quantitative agreement with recent lattice QCD calculations, reproducing the monotonically decreasing trend with the field strength and the decrease when lattice data approach the physical vacuum pion mass from larger values.

Pole and screening masses of neutral pions in a hot and magnetized medium: A comprehensive study in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Bingkai Sheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the pole masses and screening masses of neutral pions at finite temperature and magnetic field were investigated using the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model and the random phase approximation method. It was found that the pole masses of pi(0) in the presence of an external magnetic field exhibit a sudden mass jump at the Mott transition temperature, catalyzed by the magnetic field. Additionally, the behavior of directional sound velocities of pi(0) was analyzed to address issues related to Lorentz invariance and causality violations in previous studies.
