Curing two predominant viruses occurring in Lentinula edodes by chemotherapy and mycelial fragmentation methods

Yijia Sun et al.

Summary: This study evaluated two different methods, ribavirin treatment and mycelial fragmentation, for curing Lentinula edodes mycovirus HKB (LeV-HKB) and L. edodes partitivirus 1 (LePV1). Mycelial fragmentation successfully cured both viruses, while ribavirin treatment only eliminated LeV-HKB. Virus-cured strains exhibited faster mycelial growth rate and higher colony density. LeV-HKB infection may affect the pigmentation in plate- and bag-cultivated mycelia of L. edodes strain L135.

Preliminary Studies on the Effects of Oyster Mushroom Spherical Virus China Strain on the Mycelial Growth and Fruiting Body Yield of the Edible Mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus

Hai-Jing Hu et al.

Summary: This study identified a new strain of Oyster Mushroom Spherical Virus (OMSV-Ch) and investigated its effects on the fungal host. The results showed that OMSV-Ch infection can cause malformation symptoms and reduce the yield of Oyster Mushroom, and it can horizontally transfer to other strains.

Diversity of mycoviruses in edible fungi

Yanjing Zhang et al.

Summary: Mycoviruses, or fungal viruses, are widely distributed in fungi and can cause severe diseases and production losses in edible fungi. Recent advances in deep sequencing have led to the discovery of novel mycoviruses that can infect edible fungi, expanding our understanding of virus diversity and evolution. This review summarizes the latest research on the diversity and evolution of mycoviruses in edible fungi, discussing transmission, co-infections, genetic variations, detection methods, and control strategies. The review provides insights for future research on mushroom viral diseases.

Transmission of mushroom virus X and the impact of virus infection on the transcriptomes and proteomes of different strains of Agaricus bisporus

Eoin O'Connor et al.

Summary: Cultivation of Agaricus bisporus is a significant horticultural industry for many countries, however, the MVX complex virus poses a serious threat to its crops. MVX affects the color and quality of fruit bodies significantly, and gene expression varies in different strains and inoculation times.

Armillaria root rot fungi host single-stranded RNA viruses

Riikka Linnakoski et al.

Summary: Species of Armillaria are globally distributed and some form large long-living clones capable of long-range spore-mediated transfer and vegetative spread. This study identified negative-sense RNA viruses, positive-sense RNA viruses, and new members of virus families infecting Armillaria isolates. Thermal treatment can cure Armillaria isolates of viruses, allowing further research on virus effects using infected and virus-free strains.

Molecular characterization of the complete genome of a novel partitivirus hosted by the saprobic mushroom Leucocybe candicans

Ergin Sahin et al.

Summary: In this study, a new partitivirus species, Leucocybe candicans partitivirus 1 (LcPV1), was characterized in the basidiomycetous, saprobic mushroom Leucocybe candicans. The full-length genome of LcPV1 consists of two dsRNA segments, each encoding an ORF for RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and a capsid protein (CP). Phylogenetic analyses revealed that LcPV1 falls within a cluster of alphapartitivirus species from the family Partitiviridae.
