The onset of tapering in the early stage of growth of a nanowire

Saransh Raj Gosain et al.

Summary: This study investigates the early stage of semiconductor nanowire growth where the diffusion length of sidewall adatoms is short due to strong desorption. Experimental results of ZnSe nanowire growth using molecular beam epitaxy are described and interpreted using the Burton-Cabrera-Frank model for step propagation along the sidewalls. The results are compared to other II-VI and III-V nanowires, highlighting the role of growth parameters and resulting nanowire shape.

Unity yield of deterministically positioned quantum dot single photon sources

Patrick Laferriere et al.

Summary: This study reports on a platform for producing single photon devices with a 100% fabrication yield. The researchers used optimized growth conditions to produce large arrays of structures with highly uniform geometries. The study establishes nanowire-based devices as a viable route for scalable fabrication of efficient single photon sources, providing valuable resources for current hybrid on-chip platforms being developed.

Bright Single-Photon Emitters with a CdSe Quantum Dot and Multimode Tapered Nanoantenna for the Visible Spectral Range

Maxim Rakhlin et al.

Summary: This study introduces single photon emitters for the green-yellow spectral range, utilizing a CdSe/ZnSe quantum dot inside a semiconductor tapered nanocolumn acting as a nanoantenna. Despite the presence of multiple optical modes, the nanoantenna efficiently collects and outputs the quantum dot radiation. Arrays of such emitters, fabricated using focused ion beam etching from a II-VI/III-V heterostructure grown via molecular beam epitaxy, demonstrate promising potential for secure free space optical communication lines with an average count rate exceeding 5 MHz and a low second-order correlation function at 220 K.

Tailoring the Geometry of Bottom-Up Nanowires: Application to High Efficiency Single Photon Sources

Dan Dalacu et al.

Summary: The geometry of nanowires plays a crucial role in determining the rate of photon generation and efficiency of photon collection in non-classical light sources. By embedding quantum dots in nanowires with tailored geometries, high efficiency single photon generation with minimal multi-photon emissions can be achieved.

Light hole states in a strained quantum dot: Numerical calculation and phenomenological models

K. Moratis et al.

Summary: The study explores the effects of built-in strain on the heavy hole, light hole, and exciton states in lattice-mismatched ellipsoidal quantum dots situated inside nanowires. The results show that the built-in axial strain not only determines the character of the ground state but also significantly mixes the light hole state with split-off band states.
