Isotopic constraints on sources, production, and phase partitioning for nitrate in the atmosphere and snowfall in coastal East Antarctica

Summary: The study investigates sources and production of atmospheric nitrate in coastal East Antarctica using isotopic composition. It found that atmospheric nitrate in summer is associated with snowpack emissions of NOx and in winter, there is mixing between stratospheric and tropospheric sources contributing to nitrate. The study also suggests oxygen isotopes of nitrate could be more sensitive to changes in surface ozone compared to bromine oxide concentrations.

Summary: Recent research has shown that warm air intrusion events over the Amundsen Sea Embayment are mainly caused by large-scale moisture advection associated with atmospheric rivers. In 2013, there were twice as many warm air intrusion events compared to 2014, partially due to stronger pressure gradients in the study area. These events resulted in approximately 3 days of surface melting over areas like the Pine Island Glacier.

Performance of MAR (v3.11) in simulating the drifting-snow climate and surface mass balance of Adelie Land, East Antarctica
