The Economic Burden Associated with Depressive Symptoms among Middle-Aged and Elderly People with Chronic Diseases in China

Summary: Coexisting physical diseases and depressive symptoms exacerbate morbidity and disability, leading to an increased economic burden. This study found that depressive symptoms among middle-aged and elderly individuals with chronic diseases were associated with higher healthcare costs and productivity loss. The economic burden was particularly significant for individuals with cancer or malignant tumors.
