Fermatean fuzzy Heronian mean operators and MEREC-based additive ratio assessment method: An application to food waste treatment technology selection

Pratibha Rani et al.

Summary: This study aims to introduce an integrated decision-making method based on Fermatean fuzzy information to handle qualitative data and uncertain information. The study consists of four phases, including developing entropy measure, introducing Fermatean fuzzy Heronian mean operators, originating extended MEREC technique, and introducing integrated ARAS method. The proposed approach successfully evaluated and ranked alternatives in a food waste treatment technology selection problem.

Decentralized Composting of Food Waste: A Perspective on Scientific Knowledge

Antoni Sanchez

Summary: Composting is an effective and sustainable technology for treating organic wastes. Home and community composting have gained increasing interest in recent years, allowing individuals to manage their own organic wastes and obtain compost for personal use. While there are still uncertainties regarding compost quality and environmental impact, current scientific knowledge suggests that home compost can be similar to industrial compost in terms of quality, although sanitization may not always be achieved. Gaseous emissions, particularly greenhouse emissions, are generally low in home composting. Additionally, home composting shows potential as an alternative strategy for more resilient cities, especially during pandemics.

Supporting decision making to achieve circularity via a biodegradable waste-to-bioenergy and compost facility

Christos Vlachokostas et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a methodology for decision making in the efficient management of biodegradable waste, particularly focusing on energy and organic fertilizer recovery. It can be applied by public authorities, producers and stakeholders to promote sustainable waste management programs. A real-case study in Greece demonstrates the potential benefits of the proposed installation in managing waste and generating biogas and renewable energy.
