Centrality dependence of dilepton production via gamma gamma processes from Wigner distributions of photons in nuclei

Mariola Klusek-Gawenda et al.

Summary: A new complete method based on the Wigner distributions of photons is proposed for calculating differential distributions of dileptons created via photon-photon fusion in semicentral AA collisions. The calculated results show very good agreement with recent experimental data from STAR, ALICE, and ATLAS without the need for free parameters or additional mechanisms.

A fixed-target programme at the LHC: Physics case and projected performances for heavy-ion, hadron, spin and astroparticle studies

C. Hadjidakis et al.

Summary: This study reviews the context, motivations, and expected performances of a comprehensive and ambitious fixed-target program using multi-TeV proton and ion LHC beams, as well as different possible technical implementations. It also discusses the possibilities offered by the use of the ALICE and LHCb detectors in fixed-target mode.

Lepton pair production in ultraperipheral collisions

Ren-jie Wang et al.

Summary: Lepton pair production in ultraperipheral collisions is studied in the classical field approximation, deriving a general form of the cross section based on photon distributions. The results connect with the transverse momentum dependent distribution factorization formalism in the Born approximation, showing consistency with current experimental data.

Exclusive dimuon production in ultraperipheral Pb plus Pb collisions at √SNN=5.02 TeV with ATLAS

G. Aad et al.

Summary: The exclusive dimuon production in ultraperipheral collisions resulting from photon-photon interactions in the strong electromagnetic fields of colliding high-energy lead nuclei was studied using data from ATLAS detector at the LHC. The total cross section measurement showed discrepancies with theoretical calculations, particularly at larger pair rapidity regions.
