Is hepatic resection justified for non-colorectal non-neuroendocrine liver metastases? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Kelvin K. C. Ng et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on hepatic resection (HR) for non-colorectal non-neuroendocrine liver metastases (NCNNLM). The results showed that HR for NCNNLM can achieve satisfactory survival outcomes in selected patients with low risks.

Gastric Cancer, Version 2.2022

Jaffer A. Ajani et al.

Summary: Gastric cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with over 95% being adenocarcinomas. It is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, leading to a poor prognosis. However, systemic therapy can alleviate symptoms, improve survival, and enhance quality of life. The implementation of biomarker testing has significantly impacted clinical practice and patient care. Targeted therapies have shown encouraging results in clinical trials. Palliative management is recommended for patients with unresectable or metastatic cancer.

Definition of oligometastatic esophagogastric cancer and impact of local oligometastasis-directed treatment: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Tiuri E. Kroese et al.

Summary: Local treatment may improve overall survival in patients with esophagogastric cancer and oligometastatic disease (OMD). The current literature defines OMD as the presence of metastases limited to one organ with no more than three lesions and the presence of an extra-regional lymph node station. Local treatment appears to be associated with improved OS compared to systemic therapy alone.

Pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) in multimodal therapy for patients with oligometastatic peritoneal gastric cancer: a randomized multicenter phase III trial PIPAC VEROne

Francesco Casella et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of combining pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy with systemic chemotherapy in gastric cancer patients, particularly those with synchronous positive peritoneal cytology and/or limited peritoneal metastases. The study will evaluate multiple endpoints, including secondary resectability rate, through a randomized controlled trial design.

Efficacy of Surgery for the Treatment of Gastric Cancer Liver Metastases: A Systematic Review of the Literature and Meta-Analysis of Prognostic Factors

Gianpaolo Marte et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility and benefits of hepatectomy for GCLM in terms of long-term survival, with multiple prognostic factors identified to be positively associated with better survival rates. Identifying patient subgroups that could benefit from surgical treatment is essential in a multidisciplinary setting.

Surgical treatment of gastric cancer liver metastases: Systematic review and meta-analysis of long-term outcomes and prognostic factors

Stefano Granieri et al.

Summary: The prognosis of patients with metastatic gastric cancer is still unfavorable, but studies suggest that surgical resection of liver-only metastatic gastric cancer in carefully selected patients may yield encouraging results. Factors such as T stage > 2, metastasis size >= 5 cm, multiple metastases, and bilobar disease are strong predictors of mortality. However, strict selection criteria and robust statistical analyses indicate that surgical resection with curative intent could significantly improve overall survival in certain patients without extrahepatic disease.
