Summary: The prognosis of patients with metastatic gastric cancer is still unfavorable, but studies suggest that surgical resection of liver-only metastatic gastric cancer in carefully selected patients may yield encouraging results. Factors such as T stage > 2, metastasis size >= 5 cm, multiple metastases, and bilobar disease are strong predictors of mortality. However, strict selection criteria and robust statistical analyses indicate that surgical resection with curative intent could significantly improve overall survival in certain patients without extrahepatic disease.
