Metal Inorganic-Organic Complex Glass and Fiber for Photonic Applications

Mohamed A. Ali et al.

Summary: This study reports a new type of glass material that can be fabricated into large-sized bulk glass with photonic functionalities through appropriate temperature treatments. Doping with organic dyes enables photoluminescence, and the material can also serve as a host for inorganic phosphors to develop high-power white light-emitting diodes.

Comparative study on the thermal decomposition of structural isomers: Pyrazole and imidazole energetic materials

Shuangfei Zhu et al.

Summary: This study comparatively investigated the thermal decomposition mechanisms of nitropyrazole and nitroimidazoles at high temperature and high density. The results revealed that the initial decomposition reactions were triggered by OH elimination due to intermolecular H-shift. The N2 elimination played a major role in the decomposition of pyrazoles, while the formation of hydrogen cyanide CHN was the main decomposition channel of imidazoles. The cleavage of C-NO2 bonds was inhibited at high density, promoting reactions between molecules.

Topological-Distortion-Driven Amorphous Spherical Metal-Organic Frameworks for High-Quality Single-Mode Microlasers

Zhenhua Gao et al.

Summary: A strategy was proposed to design spherical MOFs microcavities by introducing flexible building blocks to overcome scattering losses in MOF microstructures, resulting in high Q factor and sufficient feedback for high-quality lasing oscillations. The acquired spherical microcavities with ultra-smooth surfaces and circular boundaries may pave the way for new types of flexible MOF-based photonic components.

Network-Forming Liquids from Metal-Bis(acetamide) Frameworks with Low Melting Temperatures

Mengtan Liu et al.

Summary: Molten phases of metal-organic networks offer exciting opportunities for using coordination chemistry principles to access liquids and glasses with unique and tunable structures and properties. General thermodynamic strategies provide increased enthalpic and entropic driving force for reversible, low-temperature melting transitions in extended coordination solids, illustrated through a systematic study of bis(acetamide)-based networks with record-low melting temperatures. Weak coordination bonds, conformationally flexible bridging ligands, and weak electrostatic interactions contribute to the low melting temperatures of these compounds, reducing enthalpy and increasing entropy of fusion.

The effect of dye concentration and cell thickness on dye-polymer random laser action

R. A. Ejbarah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of dye concentration, cell thickness, and polymers on the characteristics of random lasers, revealing significant effects on parameters such as emission spectrum, FWHM, and lasing threshold. By optimizing these parameters, improvements in the random laser properties were achieved, showing promise for potential applications in medical devices and biosensors.
