Non-Markovian disentanglement dynamics in double-giant-atom waveguide-QED systems

Xian-Li Yin et al.

Summary: We study the disentanglement dynamics of two giant atoms coupled to a one-dimensional waveguide, focusing on the non-Markovian effect due to the retardation. By considering the photon transmission time, we solve the time-delayed equations to obtain the evolution of entanglement between the two giant atoms. We find that the retardation-induced non-Markovianity leads to nonexponential decay and revivals of entanglement. We also investigate the dependence of disentanglement on different coupling configurations, detuning effect, initial-state phase effect, and initial state composition.

Nonperturbative treatment of giant atoms using chain transformations

David D. Noachtar et al.

Summary: The coupling of superconducting circuits with acoustic waveguides has expanded the range of phenomena that can be experimentally studied using tools from quantum optics. The investigation of giant artificial atoms allows the study of systems where the electric dipole approximation breaks down and non-Markovian effects become important. In this study, a numerically exact analysis of giant atoms strongly coupled to their environment is performed, taking into account the counter-rotating terms that are often neglected in previous studies.

Giant atoms with time-dependent couplings

Lei Du et al.

Summary: In this paper, we study the decay dynamics of a two-level giant atom coupled to a waveguide with time-dependent coupling strengths. In the non-Markovian regime, we find that the dynamics of the atom depend on the atom-waveguide coupling strengths at an earlier time, allowing for tailored decay dynamics and the possibility of stationary population revival. Additionally, we demonstrate the potential to simulate quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects in the giant-atom model with periodic coupling quenches.

Nonperturbative waveguide quantum electrodynamics

Yuto Ashida et al.

Summary: Understanding the physical properties of quantum emitters interacting with quantized electromagnetic modes is a primary goal in waveguide quantum electrodynamics. Traditional perturbative approaches are no longer sufficient in regimes where the coupling strength exceeds the energies of elementary excitations. In this study, a comprehensive and rigorous theoretical approach is used to investigate the properties of waveguide QED in nonperturbative regimes. Several surprising features, such as symmetry-protected many-body bound states and strong renormalization effects, are uncovered. Applications of these results in different fields, including quantum optics and condensed matter physics, are discussed.

Distant emitters in ultrastrong waveguide QED: Ground-state properties and non-Markovian dynamics

Carlos A. Gonzalez-Gutierrez et al.

Summary: Starting from the paradigmatic spin-boson model, the study investigates the static and dynamical properties of a system of two distant two-level emitters coupled to a one-dimensional Ohmic waveguide beyond the rotating wave approximation. The research explores the effects of finite separation distance on various behaviors of the two-qubit system, and introduces non-Markovianity in the ultrastrong coupling regime. Numerical simulations validate the results, showing interesting dynamical effects in ultrastrong waveguide QED with distant emitters, and the collective dynamics are influenced by both distance and coupling.

Cavitylike strong coupling in macroscopic waveguide QED using three coupled qubits in the deep non-Markovian regime

Sofia Arranz Regidor et al.

Summary: We introduced a three-qubit waveguide-QED system to achieve a cavity-QED strong-coupling regime for a probe qubit embedded in atomlike mirrors, which was realized in recent experiments. By extending this system into the deep non-Markovian regime, we demonstrated the profound role that retardation plays on the dressed resonances, allowing significant improvement in polariton lifetimes and realization of various functionalities.

Single-photon nonreciprocal excitation transfer with non-Markovian retarded effects

Lei Du et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the nonreciprocal excitation transfer between emitters at the single-photon level. By introducing a coherent coupling channel with nontrivial coupling phase, we demonstrate obvious nonreciprocity in the excitation transfer between emitters of a small-atom dimer. We also propose a giant-atom trimer that supports both nonreciprocal transfer of excitation and greatly lengthened lifetime, showcasing potential applications in large-scale quantum networks and quantum information processing.

Modeling quantum light-matter interactions in waveguide QED with retardation, nonlinear interactions, and a time-delayed feedback: Matrix product states versus a space-discretized waveguide model

Sofia Arranz Regidor et al.

Summary: This paper presents two different methods for modeling non-Markovian quantum light-matter interactions in waveguide QED systems, using MPS and SDW models. Both methods efficiently describe multiphoton nonlinear dynamics in highly non-Markovian regimes, with the MPS approach scaling better for multiphoton dynamics and long delay times while explicitly including non-Markovian memory effects. On the other hand, the SDW model accounts for non-Markovian effects through space discretization and solves Markovian equations of motion, rigorously including the effects of retardation.

Engineering the level structure of a giant artificial atom in waveguide quantum electrodynamics

A. M. Vadiraj et al.

Summary: Artificial atoms made from superconducting circuits have enabled new frontiers in light-matter coupling, including the study of giant atoms. By implementing a giant artificial atom using a transmon qubit coupled to propagating microwaves at multiple points along an open transmission line, we observed novel effects such as strong frequency-dependent couplings and engineered metastable excited states.
