Red-diode-clad-pumped CW and mode-locked Er:ZBLAN fiber laser at 3.5 μm

Zhipeng Qin et al.

Summary: This study reports on a red-diode-clad-pumped continuous-wave (CW) and mode-locked Er:ZBLAN fiber laser at 3.5 μm for the first time. Experimental and numerical simulation results show that a heavily-doped Er:ZBLAN fiber can effectively generate 3.5 μm laser through 658 nm laser diode pumping. By incorporating a homemade semiconductor saturable absorber mirror, a diode-pumped CW mode-locked 3.5 μm Er:ZBLAN fiber laser was demonstrated with high performance.

Generation of single solitons tunable from 3 to 3.8 μm in cascaded Er3+-doped and Dy3+-doped fluoride fiber amplifiers

Linpeng Yu et al.

Summary: This article demonstrates a compact system based on fluoride fibers that can generate high-power tunable femtosecond mid-infrared (MIR) pulses. By employing different fiber amplifiers and frequency shifters, the system achieves single solitons tunable from 3 to 3.8 μm. The experimental results indicate that the system can generate stable and high-quality MIR pulses.

Femtosecond tunable solitons up to 4.8 μm using soliton self-frequency shift in an InF3 fiber

Jean-Christophe Gauthier et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a tunable ultrashort soliton pulse source capable of reaching up to 4.8 μm. By coupling a 2.8 μm femtosecond fiber laser to a zirconium fluoride fiber amplifier and a small core indium fluoride fiber, it extends the wavelength limit previously reported with soliton self-frequency shift (SSFS) sources based on fluoride fibers. The experimental and numerical investigation reveals the spectral dynamics associated with the generation of highly redshifted pulses in the mid-infrared using SSFS enhanced by soliton fission. This research aims to provide a better understanding of the potential and limitations of SSFS-based tunable femtosecond fiber sources in the 3-5 μm spectral range.

Compact high-flux hard X-ray source driven by femtosecond mid-infrared pulses at a 1 kHz repetition rate

Azize Koc et al.

Summary: A novel table-top hard X-ray source driven by femtosecond mid-infrared pulses achieves unprecedented X-ray photon flux with high stability, generating 8 keV pulses at 1 kHz repetition rate. This innovative source combines optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifier and a thin Cu tape target to produce highly stable Kα photon flux.

Fiber-based source of 500 kW mid-infrared solitons

I Tiliouine et al.

Summary: A fiber-based source delivering high-energy few-cycle pulses in the mid-IR spectral range has been developed, utilizing multi-solitonic fission and soliton self-frequency shift in large mode area fibers excited by picosecond pulses. The achieved level of instantaneous power and ultra-short duration pave the way for generating an ultra-broadband coherent continuum in the mid-IR, with implications for high-resolution molecular spectroscopy and imaging.

Yicheng Zhou et al.

Summary: A scheme of pulse amplification and simultaneous self-compression in fluoride fiber has been reported for generating high-peak-power pulse at 2.8-mu m wavelength, achieved through dispersion management with a Ge rod. A peak power of 2 MW was obtained from Er:ZBLAN fiber, with pulse energy of 101 nJ and pulse duration of 49 fs, the highest peak power from fluoride fiber at 2.8 mu m wavelength to date, benefiting various applications.
