Architecture for an Ultrasound Advanced Open Platform With an Arbitrary Number of Independent Channels

Daniele Mazierli et al.

Summary: Ultrasound open platforms are programmable tools for developing novel methods, with the ability to control up to 256 probe elements independently. A system architecture is proposed in this paper, utilizing hardware and software synchronization to implement advanced platforms with arbitrary numbers of channels. The solution, requiring only a single personal computer, maintains real-time features and portability, allowing for the production of high-quality real-time B-mode images and new high frame rate modalities.

Feasibility of 3-D Coherent Multi-Transducer Ultrasound Imaging with Two Sparse Arrays

Laura Peralta et al.

Summary: Coherent multi-transducer ultrasound (CoMTUS) improves image quality by creating an extended effective aperture through coherent combination of multiple arrays. Implementing CoMTUS in 3-D imaging can solve alignment issues and provide significant improvements.
