Finite-volume pionless effective field theory for few-nucleon systems with differentiable programming

Xiangkai Sun et al.

Summary: Finite-volume pionless effective field theory provides an efficient framework for extrapolating nuclear spectra and matrix elements from finite volume to infinite volume, as well as for extending calculations to larger atomic systems. In this work, the authors demonstrate the implementation of this framework using optimized correlated Gaussian wave functions and solving a generalized eigenvalue problem, which is shown to be significantly more efficient compared to previous stochastic methods.

Weakly Bound H Dibaryon from SU(3)-Flavor-Symmetric QCD

Jeremy R. Green et al.

Summary: This study presents the first exploration of baryon-baryon interactions in the continuum limit of lattice QCD, revealing unexpectedly large lattice artifacts impacting the binding energy. By applying variational methods and Luscher's finite-volume quantization conditions, scattering phase shifts can be determined from the spectrum, leading to an estimate of the binding energy of the H dibaryon in three-flavor QCD.

Lattice QCD Constraints on the Parton Distribution Functions of 3He

William Detmold et al.

Summary: For the first time, the fraction of the longitudinal momentum of He-3 that is carried by the isovector combination of u and d quarks has been determined using lattice QCD. The ratio of this combination to that in the constituent nucleons is consistent with unity at the few-percent level. Extrapolation to physical quark masses shows that this constraint is more precise than determinations from global nuclear parton distribution function fits.

Low-energy scattering and effective interactions of two baryons at mπ ∼ 450 MeV from lattice quantum chromodynamics

Marc Illa et al.

Summary: In this study, interactions between two octet baryons at low energies were investigated using LQCD with larger-than-physical quark masses. The results showed that most systems were bound at this pion mass, except for the repulsive interactions in the spin-triplet Sigma N and Xi Xi channels. Extrapolation of binding energies to the physical point was performed, and constraints on low-energy coefficients in pionless EFT relevant for two-baryon interactions were determined.

Axial charge of the triton from lattice QCD

Assumpta Parreno et al.

Summary: This study investigates the axial charge of the triton using lattice QCD, finding a compact bound state with the quantum numbers of the triton at specific quark masses, and a triton to proton axial charge ratio of 0.91. Results from correlation functions calculations and FVEFT extrapolation show that QCD can explain the modification to the triton's axial charge.

Few-nucleon matrix elements in pionless effective field theory in a finite volume

W. Detmold et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of pionless effective field theory in a finite volume (FVEFT pi/) as a framework to analyze multinucleon spectra and matrix elements calculated in lattice QCD (LQCD). By combining FVEFT pi/ with the stochastic variational method, spectra of nuclei with atomic number A is an element of {2, 3} are matched to existing finite-volume LQCD calculations at heavier-than-physical quark masses, enabling determination of infinite-volume binding energies.

Nature of the Λnn(Jπ=1/2+, I=1) and 3ΛH*(Jπ=3/2+, I=0) states

M. Schaefer et al.

Summary: The nature of Lambda nn and H-3(Lambda)*(J(pi) = 3/2(+), I = 0) states was investigated using a pionless effective field theory at leading order. The Lambda nn and (Lambda)(3)H* states were found to be unbound, with the (Lambda)(3)H* state being a virtual state. It was also suggested that the Lambda nn pole could potentially convert to a true resonance with Re(E) > 0. The stability of resonance solutions and accuracy of calculations were discussed and assessed.

Two-nucleon S-wave interactions at the SU(3) flavor-symmetric point with mud ≈ msphys: A first lattice QCD calculation with the stochastic Laplacian Heaviside method

Ben Horz et al.

Summary: The study reports the first application of the stochastic Laplacian Heaviside method for calculating multiparticle interactions with lattice QCD in the two-nucleon system. The method allows for the construction of interpolating operators to create positive-definite two-nucleon correlation functions, and enables a variational analysis to form optimal linear combinations of operators that couple predominantly to the system's eigenstates, with the observed spectrum strongly disfavoring the presence of a bound state in either the deuteron or dineutron channel.
