Collective gradient sensing with limited positional information

Emiliano Perez Ipina et al.

Summary: In a cluster of cells, individual cells can sense chemical gradients more accurately by integrating concentration measurements. However, when cells have limited positional information within the cluster, the accuracy of collective gradient sensing is reduced.

Enhanced persistence and collective migration in cooperatively aligning cell clusters

Vincent E. Debets et al.

Summary: Cells have the ability to move individually or collectively, which helps them adapt, rearrange, and explore their surroundings. Modeling and theoretical analysis of small cell clusters show that cluster persistence time increases with the number of cells in the cluster, while intrinsic diffusivity decreases. Small clusters play a significant role in development and cancer metastasis, and understanding their motility properties may offer insights into metastatic potential.

Learning the dynamics of cell-cell interactions in confined cell migration

David B. Brueckner et al.

Summary: The study found that the interactions between noncancerous cells are mainly described by repulsion and friction interactions, while cancerous cells exhibit attraction and antifriction interactions. These interaction behaviors were validated in experiments and may provide a unifying theoretical description for diverse cellular interaction behaviors of different cell types.

Rules of contact inhibition of locomotion for cells on suspended nanofibers

Jugroop Singh et al.

Summary: The study shows that rules controlling cell-cell collisions on suspended nanofibers differ significantly from CIL behavior on 2D substrates. Fiber geometry modulates cell behavior, with cell-cell adhesion identified as a key mediator of collision outcomes. The geometry of the fiber can generate entirely new behaviors that cannot be predicted from interactions on flat substrates or micropatterns.
