TOX3 regulates the proliferation and apoptosis of colorectal cancer by downregulating RhoB via the activation of the MAPK pathway

Wei Yang et al.

Summary: TOX3 is found to be overexpressed in colorectal cancer (CRC), and its expression is associated with aggressive features and prognosis of CRC patients. TOX3 promotes CRC cell proliferation, inhibits apoptosis, and decreases sensitivity to oxaliplatin. The TOX3/MAPK/RhoB signaling pathway plays a crucial role in the regulation of proliferation and apoptosis of CRC cells.

Erianin suppresses proliferation and migration of cancer cells in a pyruvate carboxylase-dependent manner

Jing Hong et al.

Summary: The target protein of erianin in human cells was identified as pyruvate carboxylase, and the anti-tumor signaling pathway regulated by erianin was explored in various cell lines. Erianin specifically inhibits the activity of pyruvate carboxylase and selectively inhibits the activity of pyruvate carboxylase. Erianin can also regulate the pyruvate carboxylase-mediated Wnt/ β-Catenin pathway.

A Comprehensive View on the Quercetin Impact on Colorectal Cancer

Andreea-Adriana Neamtu et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, with most cases being sporadic and caused by diet and environmental factors. Quercetin, a polyphenolic flavonoid plant secondary metabolite with antioxidant activity, has been extensively studied as an anti-carcinogenic agent in scientific literature. Research has identified molecular targets of quercetin in colorectal cancer models and its modulation of various signaling pathways.

Granatin B and punicalagin from Chinese herbal medicine pomegranate peels elicit reactive oxygen species-mediated apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in colorectal cancer cells

Xiao-Xin Chen et al.

Summary: We found that granatin B and punicalagin from pomegranate peels have superior anti-colorectal cancer and anti-mucositis activities. These phenols target reactive oxygen species and induce S-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells. They also enhance the efficacy of 5-FU-induced cell death and S-phase cell cycle arrest. These results suggest that using granatin B and punicalagin as therapeutic agents may be an innovative approach to treat colorectal cancer and intestinal mucositis.

Colorectal Cancer Preoperative Evaluation and Staging

Najjia N. Mahmoud

Summary: Colorectal tumor staging has undergone some changes over time, but not significantly. In the past 10 years, advancements in our understanding of tumor genetics and the use of MRI technology for rectal cancer staging have altered the way we assess colon and rectal cancers. Currently, CT scanning, a thorough history and physical examination, and colonoscopic assessment are still the mainstays of staging. Successful staging of colorectal cancer requires coordination and cooperation between surgery, gastroenterology, medical oncology, pathology, and radiology.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
