Remarkable catalytic activity of polymeric membranes containing gel-trapped palladium nanoparticles for hydrogenation reactions

Melissa Lopez-Viveros et al.

Summary: Polymeric flat-sheet membranes and hollow fibers were prepared via UV photo-initiated polymerization of acrylic acid to efficiently immobilize palladium nanoparticles. The flat sheet membranes were more active than hollow fibers in hydrogenation reactions under mild conditions, achieving high conversions in short reaction times.

Highly flame-retardant epoxy-based thermal conductive composites with functionalized boron nitride nanosheets exfoliated by one-step ball milling

Gaojie Han et al.

Summary: In this study, hexagonal boron nitride was exfoliated and flame-retardant functionalized in one step via ball milling, leading to the development of highly flame-retardant and thermally conductive composite materials. The obtained BNNS were used as multifunctional additives in epoxy resin composites, showing significant improvements in flame retardancy and thermal conductivity.

Phase transited lysozyme particles and MoS2 nanosheets modified elastomer-like antibacterial and antifouling microfiltration membrane derived from poly(ethylene-co-methyl acrylate)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (EMA/PVDF) blend for water purification application

Sanjay Remanan et al.

Summary: Phase inversion is a commonly used method for preparing membranes, but it is limited to polymers that are soluble in organic solvents. A new membrane preparation technique using selective etching was applied to create a microfiltration membrane with antibacterial and antifouling properties, which were enhanced by surface modifications with PTL and MoS2. The modified membranes showed high antibacterial efficiency against E. coli and S. aureus, as well as superior antifouling properties compared to control membranes. Additionally, the elastomer-like behavior of EMA copolymer contributed to the membrane's high compaction resistance and maintenance of initial flux.
