D3: A Dynamic Deadline-Driven Approach for Building Autonomous Vehicles

Ionel Gog et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new execution model called D3 to address the challenges of continuously-varying deadlines and runtime-accuracy tradeoffs in autonomous vehicle software pipelines. By centralizing deadline management and modeling missed deadlines as exceptions, D3 enables computation adjustment for applications. Additionally, an open-source realization called ERDOS is designed to provide fine-grained execution events and mechanisms for deadline enforcement. Furthermore, an open-source AV pipeline platform named Pylot is developed to solve the crucial lack of AV benchmarks.
