Advancing Reverse Electrowetting-on-Dielectric from Planar to Rough Surface Electrodes for High Power Density Energy Harvesting

Pashupati R. Adhikari et al.

Summary: Reverse electrowetting-on-dielectric (REWOD)-based energy harvesting has been studied as a novel technique of harvesting energy using liquid droplets. Previous research relied on planar electrodes with limited surface area. This study presents a modeling approach using structured rough surface electrodes to enhance power density. The results show that the proposed rough electrode REWOD energy harvester achieves a maximum power density that is approximately 4 times higher than that of planar electrodes.

Laminated Structure of Al2O3 and TiO2 for Enhancing Performance of Reverse Electrowetting-On-Dielectric Energy Harvesting

Hwichul Yang et al.

Summary: Reverse electrowetting-on-dielectric (REWOD) is a novel energy harvesting technique that uses high capacitance dielectric layers and a new leakage barrier layer to minimize current leakage and maximize power output. The laminated structure with TiO2 and Al2O3 shows reduced current leakage and relatively high capacitance compared to single layer structures, producing enhanced power density at low bias voltage. The energy-harvesting performance displays different behaviors about current generation based on the top surface material in contact with conductive droplets.
