Vacuum decay in the Lorentzian path integral

Takumi Hayashi et al.

Summary: We apply the Lorentzian path integral to analyze the decay of a false vacuum and predict the decay rate. By utilizing the Picard-Lefschetz theory, we deform the integration contour to ensure the convergence of the Lorentzian path integral. Our findings indicate that the nucleation rate of a critical bubble, where the corresponding bounce action is extremized, follows the same exponent as the Euclidean approach. Furthermore, we extend our computation to the nucleation of bubbles larger or smaller than the critical one, where the Euclidean formalism is not applicable.

Quantum nucleation of topological solitons

Minoru Eto et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quantum nucleation of topological solitons in QCD at finite density under strong magnetic fields or rapid rotation and easy-plane anisotropy. The results show that through quantum tunneling, composite configurations consisting of topological solitons can be created in the vacuum and subsequently grow rapidly.

Phases of rotating baryonic matter: non-Abelian chiral soliton lattices, antiferro-isospin chains, and ferri/ferromagnetic magnetization

Minoru Eto et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ground state of rotating baryonic matter and finds that a chiral soliton lattice (CSL) can become unstable due to pion condensations, resulting in non-Abelian (NA) CSL phases. It is observed that the NA-CSL has a lower critical angular velocity compared to the eta-CSL. Additionally, each NA soliton carries an isospin, leading to the formation of gapless isospinons in the form of an antiferro-isospin chain.

Chiral anomaly induces superconducting baryon crystal

Geraint W. Evans et al.

Summary: Chiral perturbation theory shows that the ground state of QCD in a sufficiently large magnetic field and at nonvanishing baryon chemical potential is a chiral soliton lattice. This lattice becomes unstable towards charged pion condensation at larger magnetic fields, resembling the second critical magnetic field of a type-II superconductor.

Competition of chiral soliton lattice and Abrikosov vortex lattice in QCD with isospin chemical potential

Martin Spillum Gronli et al.

Summary: We investigate the thermodynamics of two-flavor quark matter in the presence of nonzero isospin chemical potential and an external magnetic field. We map the phase diagram of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) as a function of isospin chemical potential and magnetic field, focusing on the competition between the chiral soliton lattice (CSL) and the Abrikosov vortex lattice. Our main finding is that the Abrikosov vortex lattice phase persists in the phase diagram, separating the uniform charged pion Bose-Einstein condensate phase from the CSL phase. The precise layout of the phase diagram depends sensitively on the choice of the vacuum pion mass.

Skyrmions in a magnetic field and π0 domain wall formation in dense nuclear matter

Shi Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate magnetic effects in the skyrmion system to understand the properties of dense nuclear matter. We discover a deformed pi(0) dipole structure of a baryon induced by a magnetic field. By extending our scope to stacked Skyrme crystal layers, we examine different phases of magnetized nuclear matter and identify a phase transition from crystalline state to ar pi(0) domain wall, indicating a topological transformation from pi(3)(S-3) to pi(1)(S-1). We establish a phase diagram, which can also be explored in similar systems with two-component Bose-Einstein condensates.

Summary: The study shows that thermal fluctuations stabilize the anomaly-induced chiral soliton lattice (CSL) phase, allowing the CSL state to potentially survive up to temperatures where chiral symmetry is restored.

Wash-In Leptogenesis

Valerie Domcke et al.

Summary: This mechanism, wash-in leptogenesis, operates at low masses of right-handed neutrinos without requiring CP violation, even in the regime of strong wash-out. By generalizing standard freeze-out leptogenesis to a nonminimal cosmological background, it allows for the generation of a nonvanishing B - L asymmetry using chemical potentials generated at high temperatures.

Floquet vacuum engineering: Laser-driven chiral soliton lattice in the QCD vacuum

Akihiro Yamada et al.

Summary: When a time-periodic circularly polarized laser field with a sufficiently large intensity and frequency is applied to the QCD vacuum, it becomes unstable and forms a chiral soliton lattice structure of pions, which breaks parity and continuous translational symmetries. This research lays the foundation for novel Floquet vacuum engineering.
