Nature-Derived and Synthetic Additives to poly(e-Caprolactone) Nanofibrous Systems for Biomedicine; an Updated Overview

Shahin Homaeigohar et al.

Summary: Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is a low-cost, biocompatible, and bioresorbable synthetic polymer widely used in biomedical applications. However, its low mechanical strength, insufficient cellular recognition sites, poor bioactivity, and hydrophobicity limit its broader use. To overcome these challenges, researchers have extensively investigated blending PCL with nature-derived polymers and incorporating nanofillers.

Utilizing in vitro drug release assays to predict in vivo drug retention in micelles

Aida Varela-Moreira et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop an in vitro release assay to predict the circulation times of hydrophobic drugs loaded into polymeric micelles (PM) after intravenous administration. Through characterizing the size, loading efficiency, and release profile of loaded drugs in different release media, it is found that the in vitro release profile is similar to the in vivo drug retention. The results suggest that the in vitro release assay in buffers supplemented with albumin and Triton X-100 can be employed to predict the in vivo circulation kinetics of drugs loaded in PM.

Optimizing glycerosome formulations via an orthogonal experimental design to enhance transdermal triptolide delivery

Chunyun Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, glycerosomes were used as a transdermal vehicle to enhance the delivery of triptolide. The formulation of glycerosomes was optimized and showed good stability and high entrapment efficiency. Glycerosomes significantly increased the transdermal delivery of triptolide compared to conventional liposomes. Glycerosomes have the potential to be used as an alternative to oral triptolide administration.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
