Science Requirements and Detector Concepts for the Electron-Ion Collider

R. Abdul Khalek et al.

Summary: This report describes the physics case, detector requirements, and evolving detector concepts for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) experimental program. The EIC will be a new facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to regions dominated by gluons. The use of polarized beams in the EIC will allow for unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of particles. The report aims to advance the physics program and develop detector concepts that meet the requirements for the EIC.

Towards a single scale-dependent Pomeron in holographic light-front QCD

Hans Guenter Dosch et al.

Summary: The Pomeron Regge trajectory is crucial for understanding the dynamics of hadronic total cross sections and diffractive reactions at high energies. In this article, the scale dependence of the nonperturbative gluon distribution in the nucleon and the pion is examined using holographic light-front QCD and the Veneziano model. The study suggests that the QCD evolution of the gluon distribution function leads to a single scale-dependent Pomeron, which unifies the soft and perturbative Pomeron. This finding explains the Q(2) evolution of the proton structure function and the energy and Q(2) dependence of high energy diffractive processes involving virtual photons, even up to LHC energies.

Regge theory in a holographic dual of QCD in the Veneziano limit

Artur Amorim et al.

Summary: In this study, Regge theory in a bottom-up holographic model for QCD in the Veneziano limit is explored with the backreaction of quarks to gluon dynamics included, leading to a successful fit to the meson spectrum. The model is extended to include higher spin fields dual to the Pomeron and meson Regge trajectories, enabling a fit to masses of mesons with spins J = 2, 3, and 4, as well as experimental data of total cross-sections sigma(gamma gamma -> X), sigma(gamma p -> X) and sigma(pp -> X). The obtained chi(2) d.o.f. of 0.74 for 199 experimental points indicates a good agreement for the cross sections.

Gluon matter distribution in the proton and pion from extended holographic light-front QCD

Guy F. de Teramond et al.

Summary: The article discusses the holographic light-front QCD framework, which provides a unified nonperturbative description of hadron mass spectrum, form factors, and quark distributions. It extends holographic QCD to describe gluonic distributions in the proton and pion from the coupling of spin-two Pomeron-induced metric fluctuations with the energy momentum tensor in anti-de Sitter space, while taking into account constraints from the Veneziano model without additional free parameters. The gluonic and quark distributions are shown to have significantly different effective QCD scales.

Higher-twist fermionic operators and DIS structure functions from the AdS/CFT duality

David Jorrin et al.

Summary: This study examines the effects of local higher-twist (tau > 3) spin-1/2 fermionic operators in the strongly coupled N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on deep inelastic scattering structure functions. By utilizing the duality between N = 4 SYM theory and type IIB supergravity on AdS(5) x S-5, new significant effects compared to the minimal twist (tau = 3) case were discovered and thoroughly studied.
