Decomposition of highly persistent per fl uorooctanoic acid by hollow Bi/BiOI1-xFx: Synergistic e ff ects of surface plasmon resonance and modified band structures

Jingzhen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, hollow microsphere structures of Bi doped BiOI1-xFx solid solutions were prepared, which effectively reduced the band gap and increased the surface area and active sites for reaction. The Bi/BiOI0.8F0.2 composite exhibited the best photocatalytic performance for decomposing PFOA, with a degradation rate constant tenfold higher compared to pure BiOI and BiOF.

Fabrication of monodispersed plasmonic photocatalysts on activated carbon with the carbon source and reduction property of sewage sludge

Mengjie Wang et al.

Summary: The study fabricated porous carbon supported plasmonic photocatalysts using sewage sludge, which improved light response ability and charge separation efficiency. After 60 minutes of light irradiation, the SSCTB5 sample with 5% Bi exhibited the highest degradation rate. The photocatalytic mechanism involved the generation of radicals through the LSPR effect and charge transfer process.

Thermal Regeneration of Spent Granular Activated Carbon Presents an Opportunity to Break the Forever PFAS Cycle

Busra Sonmez Baghirzade et al.

Summary: Extensive use of PFAS has led to their presence in natural waters, and conventional methods for PFAS removal such as adsorption onto GAC may result in PFAS-laden waste streams. Inadequate disposal of PFAS-laden GAC can reintroduce PFAS into the aquatic cycle, highlighting the need for developing approaches for managing PFAS-laden GAC.

Silver particle on BiVO4 nanosheet plasmonic photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic oxidation activity of sulfadiazine

Qian Dong et al.

Summary: Decahedral BiVO4 was successfully prepared at low temperature, forming BiVO4 nanosheet (S-BiVO4) through morphological changes in surfactant addition, which was then used to fabricate a series of Ag/S-BiVO4 plasmonic photocatalysts. Among them, Ag/4S-BiVO4 showed the highest photocatalytic performance, attributed to the SPR effect induced by silver nanoparticles.

Radiative Contributions Dominate Plasmon Broadening for Post-Transition Metals in the Ultraviolet

Maria V. Fonseca Guzman et al.

Summary: The study investigates the plasmonic properties of post-transition metals such as Al, Bi, Ga, In, and Sn in the ultraviolet range, finding that radiative processes dominate plasmon dephasing and damping, with a significantly higher radiative contribution to plasmon linewidth compared to nonradiative contributions, unlike what is observed for Ag spheres. The findings have important implications for the use of these metals in ultraviolet plasmonics and suggest a generalizable observation that the linewidth increases at higher energies for UV-active metals.

Ensemble effects in Cu/Au ultrasmall nanoparticles control the branching point for C1 selectivity during CO2 electroreduction

Hongyu Shang et al.

Summary: The study utilizes ultra-small Cu/Au nanoparticles as catalysts for CO2 reduction, enabling the investigation of surface atom ensembles and identifying the unique role of Cu-2/Au(211) ensembles in formic acid selectivity. The results uncover how ultra-small nanoparticles can circumvent traditional scaling laws to improve the selectivity of CO2 reduction.
