A Bidirectional Bioinspired [FeFe]-Hydrogenase Model

Md Estak Ahmed et al.

Summary: With the price-competitiveness of solar and wind power, hydrogen technologies may change the game for a cleaner, defossilized, and sustainable energy future. Electrochemical production of hydrogen can be stored for long periods and converted back into power through fuel cells. The discovery of cheap and efficient catalysts, inspired by bioinspiration and iron-based catalysts, is crucial for the feasibility of this process.

Reversible or Irreversible Catalysis of H+/H2 Conversion by FeFe Hydrogenases

Andrea Fasano et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermodynamic driving force required for fast catalysis in bidirectional molecular catalysts and the mechanism of irreversible catalysis reactions. The research found that the catalytic irreversibility of a specific enzyme can be explained without invoking slow interfacial electron transfer or variations in the mechanism, with the same catalytic pathway being used in both directions of the reaction.

Phosphine-containing Diiron Propane-1,2-dithiolate Derivatives: Synthesis, Spectroscopy, X-ray Crystal Structures, and Electrochemistry

Lin Yan et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully synthesized and characterized biomimetic compounds mimicking the active site of [FeFe]-hydrogenases. By treating specific compounds with decarbonylation agents, they obtained phosphine-containing derivatives that showed catalytic activity in reducing protons to H2 in the presence of HOAc.

Diiron ethane-1,2-dithiolate complexes with 1,2,3-thiadiazole moiety: Synthesis, X-ray crystal structures, electrochemistry and fungicidal activity

Lin Yan et al.

Summary: Four diiron ethane-1,2-dithiolate complexes containing 1,2,3-thiadiazole moiety were successfully synthesized and characterized. The complexes exhibited catalytic activity in reducing protons to H-2 and the hydroxy group possibly played a significant role in their fungicidal activity, as revealed by the electrochemical and fungicidal activity studies.
