This paper investigates the three-dimensional electromagnetic forces of motors according to different skew types and proposes a novel skew condition. The performance of both the conventional and proposed models is compared.
Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in motors degrade the performance and life cycle. Therefore, electromagnetic force of motor should be reduced, which affects NVH. The methods of applying skew to stator or rotor generally focus on radial and tangential force than axial force. However, some skew conditions may generate the unexpected axial force, which has uncertainty in NVH. In this paper, we investigate the 3-D electromagnetic forces according to skew types, which is consisted of step number, stack length and angle between steps, based on the maxwell stress tensor. As a result of analysis, the novel skew condition is proposed, and the comparison of performance in both conventional and proposed model is also present.
