This paper presents a preliminary electromagnetic analysis of a 1:20 gear ratio coaxial magnetic gear (MG) motor for electric vehicle traction. Both 2-D and 3-D finite element analyses (FEA) are used in the electromagnetic design study, and it is shown that minimizing losses can enable high-speed operation and high overall torque density for the MG motor.
This paper reports on the preliminary electromagnetic analysis of a 1:20 gear ratio coaxial magnetic gear (MG) motor for use in an electric vehicle traction application. Both 2-D and 3-D finite element analyses (FEA) are utilized in the electromagnetic design study, and it is shown that if losses can be minimized the high-speed operation of the MG motor could enable the high-gear ratio MG motor to operate with a high overall torque density.
