The chance of spontaneous patent ductus arteriosus closure in preterm infants born before 32 weeks of gestation is high and continues to increase until 5 years of follow-up

Mette Ronn Nielsen et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to estimate the spontaneous closure rate of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in premature infants and identify the criteria associated with the chance of spontaneous closure. The results showed a high rate of spontaneous closure in premature infants, with the incidence continuing to increase during a 5-year follow-up period.

A randomized trial of intravenous acetaminophen versus indomethacin for treatment of hemodynamically significant PDAs in VLBW infants

Summary: The study aimed to compare the treatment outcomes of HS-PDA in very low-birthweight infants using IV acetaminophen or IV indomethacin. IV indomethacin showed higher success rate in treating HS-PDA compared to IV acetaminophen, although more infants in the acetaminophen group underwent transcatheter closure.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous paracetamol and ibuprofen in treating hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus in preterm infants. Results showed that ibuprofen was more effective in closing the ductus than paracetamol, but both drugs had similar effects on ductal constriction.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of paracetamol on PDA closure in preterm infants. The results showed that standard intermittent IV bolus paracetamol therapy was more effective than continuous IV infusion for PDA treatment, with lower rates of PDA-related morbidities.
