Summary: The study found that povidone-iodine 10% and a 1:1 solution of povidone-iodine 10% and 4% hydrogen peroxide were the only effective solutions against biofilm across all three surfaces and time points. Saline, vancomycin, and polymyxin-bacitracin were ineffective compared to other solutions for dispersing MSSA biofilm. Furthermore, the efficacy of commercial antibacterial solutions varied significantly, with a global decrease in efficacy as biofilm maturity increased.

Development of a large animal rabbit model for chronic periprosthetic joint infection

Summary: The study successfully developed a rabbit model of chronic PJI by inducing periprosthetic osteomyelitis in the distal femur of New Zealand white rabbits. The results showed radiologically evident periprosthetic osteolysis by day 28, accompanied by elevated white blood cell counts and histological evidence of bacteria in the bone tunnels after screw removal.
