MPCSM: Microservice Placement for Edge-Cloud Collaborative Smart Manufacturing

Summary: In this article, a microservice placement mechanism for edge-cloud collaborative smart manufacturing systems is proposed, which utilizes an accurate data-driven E2E latency estimation method to support a latency-aware microservice placement algorithm, effectively reducing the overall service latency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the error of the E2E latency estimator in this mechanism is up to 10 times less than that of existing ones, resulting in an overall service latency up to 10 times less than existing service placement approaches.
