pHeavy: Predicting Heavy Flows in the Programmable Data Plane

Xiaoquan Zhang et al.

Summary: The paper introduces pHeavy, a machine learning based scheme for predicting heavy flows directly on the programmable data plane to eliminate network overhead and latency to the SDN controller. Implemented in both bvm2 software switch and P4 hardware switch, pHeavy achieved high accuracy in predicting heavy flows and can predict heavy flows at line rate on hardware switches.
