Cooking pasta with Lie groups

S. L. Cacciatori et al.

Summary: In this study, we extend the (gauged) Skyrme model to the case where the global isospin group is a generic compact connected Lie group. We analyze the field equations in (3+1) dimensions from a group theory perspective. By embedding three-dimensional simple Lie groups into the Lie group G, several solutions can be constructed, which represent the nuclear pasta state configurations of nuclear matter at low energy.

Chiral anomaly induces superconducting baryon crystal

Geraint W. Evans et al.

Summary: Chiral perturbation theory shows that the ground state of QCD in a sufficiently large magnetic field and at nonvanishing baryon chemical potential is a chiral soliton lattice. This lattice becomes unstable towards charged pion condensation at larger magnetic fields, resembling the second critical magnetic field of a type-II superconductor.

Black holes and black strings in the Einstein SU(N) nonlinear sigma model

Carla Henriquez-Baez et al.

Summary: In this study, analytical solutions describing black holes and black strings in the Einstein SU(N)-nonlinear sigma model were constructed using the embedding ansatz and parametrization methods. These configurations not only satisfy the model equations but also demonstrate the impact of the flavor number on the geometry and thermodynamics.

Parallel waves in Einstein-nonlinear sigma models

Beatrice Bonga et al.

Summary: We study a family of solutions of Einstein-nonlinear sigma models with S-2 and SU(2) similar to S-3 target manifolds. In the S-2 case, the solutions are smooth everywhere, are free of conical singularities, and approach asymptotically the metric of a cosmic string, with a mass per length that is proportional to the absolute value of the winding number from topological spheres onto the target S-2. This gives an interesting example of a relation between a mass and a topological charge. The case with target SU(2) generalizes the stationary solution found in Canfora et al.Eur. Phys. J. C 81, 55 (2021) to parallel waves with a nonplanar wave front W. We prove that these W-fronted parallel waves are subquadratic in the classification in Flores et al.Classical Quantum Gravity 20, 2275 (2003) and thus are causally well behaved. These spacetimes have a nonvanishing baryon current and their geometry has many striking features.

Gravitating superconducting solitons in the (3+1)-dimensional Einstein gauged non-linear σ-model

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first analytic examples of (3+1) -dimensional self-gravitating regular cosmic tube solutions which are superconducting and free of curvature singularities. The solutions resemble a boosted cosmic string with an angular defect at large distances from the axis, and near the axis, they can be singularity free. The solutions can behave as superconductors and carry a persistent current tied to their topological charge.

Non-linear composition and infinite conformal symmetry of topologically non-trivial solutions in (3+1)-dimensional Yang-Mills theory

Fabrizio Canfora

Summary: An infinite-dimensional family of analytic solutions in pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory at finite density has been constructed, labeled by integers and a massless scalar field, where the gauge field reduces to a 2D free scalar field equation. The topological charge density associated to the non-Abelian Chern-Simons current is non-zero, and nonlinear effects manifest in the composition of solutions.

Properties of nuclear pastas

Jorge A. Lopez et al.

Summary: This review examines the formation of nuclear pastas in neutron star crusts, including the role of nuclear matter, electron gas, and neutron star matter. The study reveals different phases of nuclear matter at various temperatures and densities, and the influence of the Coulomb interaction on pasta formation. The research also highlights similarities in phase transitions, symmetry energy, and thermal conductivity between nuclear matter and neutron star matter.

A gauge invariant order parameter for monopole condensation in QCD vacuum

Adriano Di Giacomo

Summary: In this paper, a new order parameter for monopole condensation in gauge theory vacuum is introduced, which is gauge-invariant and free of infrared problems. Calculating this new parameter on the lattice can definitively determine if dual superconductivity is the mechanism for color confinement. Additionally, the existence of a finite correlation length in the gauge-invariant correlator of chromo-electric field strengths is found to be related to confinement.

Analytic multi-Baryonic solutions in the SU(N)-Skyrme model at finite density

Sergio L. Cacciatori et al.

Summary: In this study, explicit analytic solutions of the SU(N)-Skyrme model were constructed to describe different phases of nuclear pasta at finite volume in (3 + 1) dimensions, including baryonic tubes and baryonic layers. The total energy of both configurations was computed, revealing different preferences at varying densities, with configurations favoring N = 2 light flavors at lower densities and N = 3 at higher densities. It was also demonstrated that in the high density regime, baryonic layers were favored, while baryonic tubes were favored at low densities, with the integrability property of the configurations remaining intact despite subleading corrections to the Skyrme model.

Analytic non-Abelian gravitating solitons in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory and transitions between them

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: The paper presents two analytic examples of globally regular non-Abelian gravitating solitons in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, comparing the characteristics of type I and type II solitons and discussing the influence of their entropies and the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs field on the phases of the system. Furthermore, it is found that the difference in degeneracies between the solutions of type I and type II in the Klein-Gordon equation for non-Abelian gravitating solitons can be used to describe the four-dimensional Quantum Hall Effect.

Analytic nonhomogeneous condensates in the (2+1)-dimensional Yang-Mills-Higgs-Chern-Simons theory at finite density

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first analytic examples of nonhomogeneous condensates in the Georgi-Glashow model in (2+1) dimensions, with a novel topological charge preventing them from decaying in trivial vacuum. The study includes calculations of non-Abelian magnetic flux and transitions in density depending on the length of the cylinder. Solutions with both constant and nonconstant Higgs profiles are considered, and stability under specific perturbations is examined. Additionally, the effects of including the non-Abelian Chern-Simons term are discussed without affecting the integrability properties of these configurations.

Thermal fluctuations in nuclear pasta

M. E. Caplan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the properties of nuclear pasta phases at high temperatures using molecular dynamics simulations and Minkowski functionals to analyze surface characteristics and their relationship with temperature, revealing an increase in surface displacement amplitude with temperature. By calculating the static structure factor and reporting shear viscosity and thermal conductivity, it was found that shear viscosity is minimized at the melting temperature.
