Longitudinal retinal layer changes in preclinical Alzheimer's disease

Jacoba A. van de Kreeke et al.

Summary: This study found no difference in retinal thickness changes between individuals with Aβ in preclinical AD and controls, but a positive association was observed between higher baseline binding potential and less inner plexiform layer thinning over time. These findings suggest that OCT may have limitations as a longitudinal screening tool for preclinical AD, but changes in inner plexiform layer offer potential for further research.

Association of Retinal Changes With Alzheimer Disease Neuroimaging Biomarkers in Cognitively Normal Individuals

Min Soo Byun et al.

Summary: In this study, retinal biomarkers were found to be potentially useful for early detection of in vivo AD pathologic abnormalities in cognitively normal older adults. The functional and structural alterations of the retina measured by multifocal electroretinogram and SS-OCT could serve as valuable tools for screening preclinical AD.
