Control of the Geometric Phase and Nonequivalence between Geometric-Phase Definitions in the Adiabatic Limit

Xiaosong Zhu et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the Berry phase and AA phase obtained through paths crossing energy degeneracies and finds that the low-frequency limits of these two phases do not always coincide. Controlling the system through the degeneracy can alter the geometric phase, and in the case of degeneracy cross, the dynamical phase becomes zero.

Fingerprint of the Interbond Electron Hopping in Second-Order Harmonic Generation

Liang Li et al.

Summary: We experimentally investigate the microscopic electron dynamics in second-order harmonic generation (SHG). Our results demonstrate the significance of interbond electron hopping in inducing a novel source of nonlinear polarization, even at significantly lower laser intensities compared to the characteristic atomic field. Our findings reveal anomalous anisotropic structures of the SHG yield contributed by interbond electron hopping, and propose a generalized second-order susceptibility that provides a unified description in weak and strong field regimes. This work extends nonlinear optics to previously unexplored territories and opens new possibilities for controlling nonlinear effects on ultrafast time scales.

Macroscopic effects in high-order harmonic generation - a focal-averaging method based on the integral solution of the wave equation

Dejan B. Milosevic

Summary: The study introduces a macroscopic theory for simulating the high-order harmonic generation process, which reveals different spectral features compared to microscopic simulations based on two different methods. The shape of the spectrum is determined by the coherence, intensity, spatial, and temporal uniformity of the laser field.

Control of the Geometric Phase and Nonequivalence between Geometric-Phase Definitions in the Adiabatic Limit

Xiaosong Zhu et al.

Summary: The study focuses on geometric phases in systems in time-dependent external fields, particularly paths through degeneracies of eigenenergies. Contrary to expectations, the low-frequency limits of the two phases do not always coincide due to slow convergence of quantum states to adiabaticity when degeneracies are involved.

Light-induced valleytronics in pristine graphene

M. S. Mrudul et al.

Summary: The article presents a method to achieve valley-selective excitation and valley-selective high-harmonic generation in pristine graphene using two counter-rotating circularly polarized fields. Controlling the relative phase between the two allows for the selection of valleys where electron-hole pairs and higher-order harmonics are generated.

Revealing the Influence of Molecular Chirality on Tunnel-Ionization Dynamics

E. Bloch et al.

Summary: The study investigates the asymmetry in tunnel ionization process and the influence of chiral potential on the amplitude and phase of electron wave packets by interacting strong laser fields with chiral molecules. The findings show that chiral light-matter interaction induces subtle angular-dependent shaping of both the amplitude and the phase of tunneling wave packets.

Symmetry analyses of high-order harmonic generation in monolayer hexagonal boron nitride

Xiao-Shuang Kong et al.

Summary: The high-order harmonic generation in monolayer hexagonal boron nitride driven by different polarized near-infrared laser pulses was investigated. The study found that the harmonic yield can be manipulated by adjusting laser parameters and circularly polarized laser fields are more efficient in generating harmonics. The research provides insight into the development of novel nanoscale attosecond light sources.
