Relationships between the vascular structure and neural function of the macula in patients with diabetes mellitus

Summary: The study aimed to determine the correlation between vascular structure and neural function of the macula in diabetes patients. Using OCTA and focal macular electroretinograms, it was found that reduced vascular densities were associated with smaller OPs and prolonged implicit times, particularly in early stage diabetic retinopathy. The implicit times were identified as the most sensitive parameter reflecting microvascular changes in the macula caused by diabetes.
