The development of simple and fast methods for the production of metal-oxide nanoparticle (NP)@MOF (metal-organic framework) composites is still a big challenging task. Herein, we demonstrate that certain functionalized MOF surfaces are suitable for such usage, leading to the fabrication of Fe2O3-NP@MOF composites in just an instant. To our best knowledge, this should represent the simplest and fastest approach among all established approaches for the preparation of metal-oxide-NP@MOF composites. The same features for the MOFs selected in this work are viewed as the key drivers for such formations and, accordingly, a mechanism for the surface coordination interaction between the MOF surface and the Fe3+ ions via a typical 'phenol-Fe3+' coloration reaction is suggested.
