Epitaxial single-crystal hexagonal boron nitride multilayers on Ni (111)

Kyung Yeol Ma et al.

Summary: Large-area single-crystal trilayer hBN has been successfully grown using a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method. The hBN film acts as a protective layer and shows potential in the fabrication of 2D semiconductors.

Isolated Ni atoms induced edge stabilities and equilibrium shapes of CVD-prepared hexagonal boron nitride on the Ni(111) surface

Hongxia Zhu et al.

Summary: The stability of h-BN edges terminated by isolated Ni atoms on the Ni(111) surface was investigated, and it was found that most edges terminated by isolated Ni atoms have lower energies and the zigzag edge terminated with nitrogen atoms (ZZN) is the most stable one. Based on these results and Wulff construction theory, the equilibrium morphology of h-BN domains in different environments was predicted. The understanding of the stability of h-BN edges is crucial for revealing its growth mechanism and has implications for the synthesis of other two-dimensional binary materials.

Ultrafast Diffusion at the Onset of Growth: O/Ru(0001)

Jack Kelsall et al.

Summary: Nanoscopic clustering of oxygen molecules on Ru(0001) surface is observed at low coverages and high temperatures. The study reveals the coexistence of quasi-static clusters and highly mobile atomic oxygen, with a surprisingly low activation energy for diffusion. The interadsorbate potential for oxygen molecules appears to have a minimum at lower separations than previously reported.

Motion of water monomers reveals a kinetic barrier to ice nucleation on graphene

Anton Tamtoegl et al.

Summary: The behavior of water monomers on a graphene surface shows cooperative motion due to repulsive forces between the monomers, increasing the monomer lifetime in a free-gas phase and inhibiting ice nucleation. These findings provide insights into the kinetic barrier of ice nucleation and offer pathways to understanding and controlling processes involved in ice formation.
