Validation of the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised in adolescents in Ghana

Samuel Adjorlolo et al.

Summary: According to the World Health Organization, 85% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where standardized and validated screening measures for identifying individuals at risk of suicide are lacking. This study investigates the validity, construct validity, and gender invariance of the Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) in Ghanaian adolescents. The findings suggest that SBQ-R can be used as a valid screening measure for assessing and intervening with adolescents at high risk for suicide, regardless of gender.

Adolescent Problem Gambling in Rural Ghana: Prevalence and Gender Differentiation

Samuel Kofi Odame et al.

Summary: Problem gambling among adolescents in rural Ghana is prevalent, with higher rates compared to urban contexts in other sub-Saharan African countries. Female adolescents are more likely to be influenced by family-related social adversities, while male adolescents are more influenced by school-related factors and interpersonal factors outside the family context. Sexual abuse victimization is associated with a threefold increase in the odds of experiencing problem gambling for both genders.
