Exploring the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk of chemicals present in vegetable oils

Seyedeh Faezeh Taghizadeh et al.

Summary: In this study, the risk of oral exposure to a mixture of pesticide, heavy metals, and PAHs residues in vegetable oil samples was assessed. The results showed that there was no major risk except for potential risk of arsenic (As). Sensitivity analysis indicated that the concentration of analytes had the greatest effect on risk assessment.

Variations of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Vegetable Oils During Seed Roasting Pre-Treatment

Junmin Ji et al.

Summary: Seed roasting is a critical step for developing aroma and flavor in fragrant oil, but it also leads to the generation of harmful substances. The concentrations and types of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the oil increase with higher roasting temperature and longer roasting time.

Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in olives exposed to three different industrial sources and in their respective oils

Yesim Altunoglu et al.

Summary: This study compared the PAH contamination of Turkish olive fruits during their growing period on the tree and their respective oils from three different industrial sources. The results showed that samples exposed to pollution from the petroleum refinery had the highest level of PAH compounds, while samples exposed to pollution from the thermal power plant had the lowest contamination levels.

Monitoring of polar pesticides and contaminants in edible oils and nuts by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Jose L. Hidalgo-Ruiz et al.

Summary: A single method was developed for determining polar pesticides and environmental contaminants in edible oils and nuts. The method included optimized extraction processes, clean-up steps, and analysis using LC-QqQ-MS/MS. The study successfully detected phosphonic acid in nuts at concentrations up to 4.6 mg kg(-1).

A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the detection of chlorpyrifos contamination in palm-based fatty acids

Bonnie Yen Ping Tay et al.

Summary: A method was developed and validated for detecting and quantifying chlorpyrifos in food-grade fatty acids using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The method showed high recovery rates and acceptable precision for chlorpyrifos in oleic acid and caprylic-capric acid, with low detection and quantification limits. The linear relationship between chlorpyrifos and the matrix-matched calibration curve was strong, indicating reliable results for the detection of the pesticide.

Determination of glycidyl esters and 3-MCPD esters in edible oils by sample pretreatment with the combination of lipase hydrolysis and modified QuEChERS for GC-MS analysis

Hsin-Ya Tsai et al.

Summary: A novel method based on Candida rugosa lipase hydrolysis and direct detection of free form glycidyl esters (GEs) was proposed, with sample preparation using modified QuEChERS to prevent side reactions and shorten preparation time. The method showed good accuracy, precision, and lower LOD and LOQ compared to traditional methods, making it a potential simplified alternative for routine analysis of GEs and 3-chloroprapane-1,2-diol esters (3-MCPDEs) in edible oils.
