Impacts of climate-induced permafrost degradation on vegetation: A review

Jin Xiao-Ying et al.

Summary: The degradation of permafrost under a warming climate has profound impacts on arctic and alpine ecology. Existing studies mainly focus on the hydrothermal impacts of vegetation on permafrost, with limited research on the ecological impacts of permafrost degradation. Permafrost degradation influences vegetation by altering soil hydrology, biogeochemical processes, and microbial communities.

Climatic Change and Human Activities Link to Vegetation Dynamics in the Aral Sea Basin Using NDVI

Timur Berdimbetov et al.

Summary: The article analyzed the impact of substantial land cover changes in rural and urban areas of Central Asia on the water scarcity condition in the Aral Sea. It studied the spatial variation of vegetation and its correlation with climatic variables in the Aral Sea Basin during 1982-1999 and 2000-2015. The results showed weak positive correlation between NDVI and climatic variables during the growing season for both periods, with a decrease in spatial vegetation trend during 2000-2015 compared to 1982-1999.

Projected Drought Conditions over Southern Slope of the Central Himalaya Using CMIP6 Models

Shankar Sharma et al.

Summary: Nepal is expected to face increasing duration and severity of droughts, especially under higher emission scenarios. The study reveals that drought frequency will increase in the early future and decrease in the late future under all shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP), with more prolonged and severe droughts projected under SSP585 compared to SSP126 and SSP245. The findings of this study can provide valuable insights for drought mitigation and long-term adaptation strategies in Nepal.

Evaluation on the stability of expressway embankment combined with L-shaped thermosyphons and insulation boards in warm and ice-rich permafrost regions

Xiaoxiao Luo et al.

Summary: The study proposed a composite measure using two-phase closed thermosyphons and insulation boards to stabilize expressway embankments, achieving good results in experiments. However, the thermosyphons may cause asymmetric thermal distribution and longitudinal cracks in the embankment, requiring further reinforcement measures to address these issues.
