Efficacy of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Combined With GnRH-a for Adenomyosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Li-Li Pang et al.

Summary: The study compared the efficacy of HIFU combined with GnRH-a versus HIFU alone in treating adenomyosis and found that the combination treatment could effectively reduce the volumes of the uterus and adenomyotic lesions, as well as alleviate symptoms. However, due to the limited number of included studies and the majority being written in Chinese, caution is needed when interpreting this conclusion.

Image-guided thermal ablation in the management of symptomatic adenomyosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Lu Liu et al.

Summary: Image-guided thermal ablation, including HIFU, PMWA, and RFA, showed promising clinical effects in treating symptomatic adenomyosis, with significant improvements in symptom severity and reduction in menorrhagia. The procedures had relatively short ablation times and good non-perfused volume ratio outcomes, with high relief rates of dysmenorrhea. However, there were notable rates of minor adverse events associated with the treatments. Overall, HIFU, PMWA, and RFA are effective and safe minimally invasive therapies for symptomatic AD.

High-intensity focused ultrasound in the management of adenomyosis: long-term results from a single center

Xilei Li et al.

Summary: The study found that high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment for patients with adenomyosis had favorable long-term clinical outcomes, reducing pain and heavy menstrual bleeding symptoms. Using HIFU combined with Mirena or HIFU combined with GnRH-a and Mirena significantly improved treatment effectiveness.
