Expert consensus on dental caries management

Lei Cheng et al.

Summary: Dental caries is a chronic oral disease that poses a significant threat to human health. Despite efforts by dentists and researchers, the prevalence of dental caries remains high. Establishing a clinical difficulty assessment system for caries prevention and management based on diagnosis and classification is crucial. Dentists should conduct oral examinations and create dental records during each visit. Personalized treatment plans, based on caries risk assessment and lesion activity, are necessary to restore oral microecological balance, control caries progression, and restore the structure and function of the affected teeth. Follow-up visits should be conducted based on personalized caries management. This expert consensus focuses on caries risk assessment, treatment difficulty assessment, and dental caries treatment plans, which are essential components of caries management throughout the life cycle.

Caries risk assessment in dental practices by dentists from a Brazilian community

Elaine Pereira da Silva Tagliaferro et al.

Summary: The study found that in Brazil, the majority of participating dentists do not routinely perform caries risk assessment (CRA), and specific factors such as years since graduation and academic degree level can impact the likelihood of performing CRA. Additionally, current oral hygiene status and commitment of patients to follow-up visits are key factors for treatment planning.
